Cold Welding process

Assembly and Welding Technology:
Chicago Electric is pioneering the use of Electromagnetic Pulse systems for swagging, forming, criping and welding Chicago Electric is the exclusive integrator for Electromagnetic Pulse systems in the US these can be applied to affect any conductive material for forming swaging and welding without heat or spring-back. Welding can be performed on dissimilar materials such as Copper to aluminum or stainless steel to cast materials.
Cold welding is a process discovered in the 1940’s where joining takes place without fusion heating and no molten phase is present during the joining process. This occurrence has historically been a problem for spacecraft designers since a vacuum atmosphere similar metals can develop this bond between components not intended to be joined. Upon investigation, this type of bonding was found to be almost metallurgically perfect.
Forming and swaging using the electromagnetic pulse conducts a frictionless (contact free) forming operation at speeds that avoid work-hardening negating spring-back and providing higher failure-free degrees of deformation
