Heartland Robotics, Inc. heads toward production and sales of its products, Scott Eckert is the new CEO in charge. He joined the company in June and is part of a team founded by Rodney Brooks who was co-founder of iRobot and a former MIT professor who spoke last year at RIA's Robotics Industry Forum.

Heartland Robotics caught the attention of Jeff Bezos (of Amazon fame) as a start-up and is funded by the Brooks, Bezos Expeditions firm. Mr. Eckert is to lead the company in its next stage of growth and development.

Rodney Brooks, Heartland Robotics' Chairman and Chief Technical Officer, cites Mr. Eckert's extensive background in successfully managing the manufacturing and marketing of high-tech products for consumer and enterprise markets, and in building new businesses from inception through significant scale.

"Scott has proven his dedication to constant innovation and has demonstrated keen leadership and entrepreneurial skills in his executive roles at Dell and as the CEO nd a co-founter of Motion Computing," said Mr. Brooks.

Bezos Expeditions gave Mr. Eckert an enthusiastic welcome as Heartland Robotics new CEO. "We are excited about the next phase in the company's growth and feel confident that Scott Eckert is a tremendous asset in leading Heartland Robotics and our goal of effecting a sea change in the process of manufacturing," said Melinda Lewison of Bezos Expeditions.

"We are excited to have Scott to join as CEO and help realize Rod Brooks' vision to redefine manufacturing economics," said Devdutt Yellurkar of Charles River Ventures (partner in the Brooks, Bezos Expeditions group).

Heartland Robotics is a member of Robotic Industries Association, and the company is positioned to influence the industry with new technology for processing orders even on the scale of large online retailers. RIA is the only trade association in North America dedicated solely to robotics and sponsors Automate 2011, a new show that combines solutions from robotics, machine vision and motion control on one floor. Running at the same time as ProMat, those concerned with logistics, warehousing and more can see solutions for the entire supply chain from March 21-24, 2011, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.
