Tolomatic's spring applied caliper disc brakes require pressure (normally hydraulic) for disc release. Braking force is provided by a stack(s) of Belleville spring washers capable of storing enormous force. When these brakes are pressurized, a piston(s) moves to compress the washer stack, releasing the disc. These brakes feature replaceable, high-grade friction material, aluminum or cast iron construction, Buna-N seals, and zinc plated bolts. Options include EPR seals, retractable pistons and manual compensators.
