Odinvision lighting has become an ideal choice in the field of machine vision due to its high brightness, uniformity, stability,

Ring Lights (RL)
Ring lights are usually emitted by LEDs or fluorescent lights. Generally, they come in three sizes: 12 inches, 14 inches, and 18 inches. You can place the camera in the center of the aperture, which is usually supported by a built-in lamp holder. This is one of the advantages of using a circular light source because your camera is directly in the middle of the light. Thus, the subject of bright and shadowless light can be obtained.

OdinVision Lights - Overview
tics, machinery, electronics, computer software and hardware, aiming to extract the crtical image features to facilitate various vision applications. The image quality, which determines the success or failure of the entire Machine Vision system, depends on the appropriate lighting method. Therefore, the light source is an important component that is critical to Machine Vision systems. For different samples and different detection contents, a good choice among different imaging schemes is also important.

OdinVision Lights - Key Terminologies
Positive Light
The Lights are located above the measured object and illuminate the surface of the measured object. According to the luminous angle, OdinVision Lights can be divided into high-angle Lights, low-angle Lights, as well as the high and low angle shadowless Lights.
High-angle Light
Definition: If the angle between the light and the horizontal plane is bigger than 45°, it is called high-angle light.
Effect analysis: for the high-angle light, lights reflected from the even part of the target surface can enter into the lens, and as suh the resulting image has high grayscale values. But, lights reflected from uneven part of the surface cannot enter into the lens, and as such the resulting image has low grayscale values.
Main applications: positioning, character detection, contour detection, scratch detection, dimensional measurement.
Common Lights: high-angle ring light, strip light, surface light, coaxial light, point light, etc.
Low-angle Light
Definition: If the angle between the light and the horizontal plane is smaller than 45°, it is called low-angle light.
Effect analysis: For low-angle light, lights reflected from the even part of target surface cannot enter into the lens, and as such the resulting image has low grayscale values. But, lights reflected from uneven part of the surface can enter into the lens, and as such the resulting image has high grayscale values.
Main applications: positioning, character detection, contour detection, scratch detection, dimensional measurement.
Common Lights: low-angle ring light, strip light, line light, etc.
Shadowless Light
Definition: The light path of Shadowless Light is changed by the structure or diffuse plate, such that the final light has both high angle and low angle.
Effect Analysis: Both high-angle and low-angle light effects can be observed, and the objects under such light tend to have multi-angle irradiation, good surface texture, weakened wrinkles, and overall-uniformed appearance on images.
Main applications: Positioning, dimensional measurement, surface inspection of curved products.
Common Lights: dome light, ring shapeless light, square shapeless light, light box, etc.
Coaxial Light
Definition: The reflected light of Coaxial Light is parallel to the lens.
Effect analysis: After the light is reflected from the plane, it enters the lens parallel to the optical axis. As such, the object to be measured is equivalent to a mirror, resulting in strong reflectance detected by the sensor. So, when the "mirror" appears uneven, it will be particularly noticeable on the image.
Main applications: scratches, embossing, bump detection, contour detection.
Common Lights: coaxial light, parallel coaxial light, surface light, line light.
Backlight
Light source of Backlight is located below the subject, and when there are no blocks, the light enters the lens directly and the image grayscale value is high. But, when the subject blocks the light, the grayscale value on the image is low, and the contour information of the subject can be obtained.
Diffuse Backlight
Definition: This type of light emits diffuse light via the diffuse plate.
Effect analysis: When extracting contours of products with thickness and curvature, the edge on the image tends to be faint and not sharp enough, which is one limitation of this type of light. But, for flat products, the imaging effect is great, and this type of light provides a cost-effective solution.
Main applications: positioning, dimensional measurement, presence detection, defect detection.
Common Lights: surface light.
Parallel Backlight
Definition: This type of light source emits parallel light through the parallel structure.
Effect Analysis: Parallel light can better enable the outer contour of the irregular object to be measured, such that the edges of cylindrical products, or products with chamfered and rounded corners tend to be clear and sharp. This type of light is generally used with telecentric lens, and the precision tend to be very high.
Main applications: dimensional measurement.
Common Lights: parallel surface light, parallel coaxial light.
Structured Light
Definition: Through a special structure, the type of light source emits a clear line array or point array.
Effect analysis: With this type of light, object with defects tends to distort the spot array pattern, leading to patterns that can help better identify defects.
Main application: flatness inspection.
Common Lights: structured light.
Bright Field
The background grayscale value is high and the feature grayscale value is low.
Dark Field
The background grayscale value is low and the feature grayscale value is high.
Color selection techniques
According to the color characteristics of the measured object itself, the corresponding wavelength is used to improve the contrast.
Two commonly used methods:
1. directly using monochromatic light source irradiation
2. Use white light with a monochromatic bandpass filter
Infrared Light
With the good penetration capability of infrared light, it can filter the interference of macromolecules on the surface of the measured object.
