USB3 Vision™ Enables Interoperability Between Flea3 Cameras and ActiveUSB from A&B Software

POSTED 10/09/2013

Point Grey, a world-leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, high-performance digital cameras, today announced out-of-the-box interoperability between Point Grey's Flea®3 USB3 Vision cameras and ActiveUSB, a universal USB3 Vision Driver and software development kit from A&B Software.

USB3 Vision is a machine vision interface standard designed to enable seamless integration between USB 3.0 cameras, cables, and image processing libraries from different vendors. The standard defines a stream and control protocol which leverages the success of GigE Vision and GenICam, by relying on a Standard Features Naming Convention (SFNC) to maintain consistency in functionality and attribute naming. Existing GigE Vision users will be able to easily transition to USB3 Vision and vice versa.

Point Grey, one of the founding members of the USB3 Vision Committee and a key contributor to the development of this standard, has been working alongside A&B software for the past year on implementing and improving the quality of its USB3 Vision implementation. As an active member of the machine vision community, A&B Software already provides support for Point Grey's GigE Vision and FireWire products and extends compatibility to Point Grey's USB 3.0 Vision cameras with the release of ActiveUSB earlier this summer.

"Our universal camera SDKs allow developers and system integrators to facilitate rapid application development in a variety of popular programming environments, and we are excited to offer software support for Point Grey's USB3 Vision cameras", says Boris Nalibotski, General Partner and Founder of A&B Software. "We are pleased to see that more software vendors, such as A&B Software, have joined the USB3 Vision ecosystem, enabling USB3 Vision interoperability with USB 3.0 cameras," says Michael Gibbons, Point Grey Sales and Marketing Director.

Existing Point Grey customers can download the USB3 Vision supported firmware for the Flea3 FL3-U3-13S2 models directly from Point Grey's website. Support for remaining Flea3 and Grasshopper3 USB 3.0 models will be provided later this year.

Version 1.0 of the USB3 Vision specification is available for download to the public for free on the AIA website: www.visiononline.org.
