Pleora to Offer USB3 Vision™ Interface for Camera and Equipment Manufacturers
POSTED 10/17/2012
OTTAWA, CANADA: Pleora Technologies, the global expert in GigE Vision® video interfaces, will soon offer camera and equipment manufacturers a USB3 Vision™ interface solution. This new video interface option—like all of Pleora’s offerings—is built upon standard IT platforms, does not require a frame grabber, and will be supported by Pleora’s common software development kit, the eBUS™ SDK.
George Chamberlain, Pleora President says: “Image sensors are outputting data at faster and faster rates and we’re seeing more mainstream sensors operating above 1 GigE rates. The upcoming USB3 Vision standard will offer sufficient bandwidth to cover sensors requiring 1-4 Gigabit per second, which provides a good complement to our GigE Vision offerings operating at 1 GigE and 10 GigE.”
Chamberlain has championed vision standards as a long-standing member of the AIA Board, which manages both the GigE Vision standard and the USB3 Vision standard. “At Pleora,” notes Chamberlain, “we’ve always been strong believers in using internationally accepted vision standards. Doing the due diligence to ensure interoperability between different components and manufacturers is the right thing to do for the industry.”
“Our customers,” says John Phillips, Senior Product Manager, “know that they can count on our GigE Vision compliant products to be truly interoperable, and we’re excited to extend their options to include USB3 Vision compliance.” Phillips notes that Pleora will be well-positioned to help its customers get-to-market quickly with a selection of interface options. “Our customers will have the advantage of one common software development kit for both GigE Vision and USB3 Vision as well as a number of shared design tools.“
Pleora is a member of the AIA’s USB3 Vision Technical and Marketing Committees and plays an active role in the development of this vision standard, which is expected to be released late 2012. Once released, Pleora will finalize its initial designs and bring a fully compliant USB3 Vision video interface, as an OEM board and Intellectual Property, to the market by mid-2013.
