Optimal integration of Photonfocus CMOS cameras

POSTED 09/28/2011

When implementing a machine vision system the project leader has to decide which hardware components he would like to use and if these components will be compatible with the current software solution. The complexity of the application as well as the number of control cyclesper unit often define the right solution for software implementation. It should not be a problem to use standard software at a lower complexity level and with less control cycles. In contrast, on a high complexity level software must be optimized and customized for the individual application needs. The optimisation starts with the upstream data pre-processing, which is done in the FPGA's or DSP's of the camera or frame grabber hardware. This continues with the optimization of the operators and the selection of a robust and real time capable CPU. Up until recently Photonfocus supported this approach with a dedicated firm- and software solution.

Nowadays Photonfocus supports the integration of their CMOS cameras in the Halcon (software from MVTec Software GmbH) and LabView (software from National Instruments) standard software. The end-user continues to rely on well-known software tools while at same time making use of the full range of the Photonfocus feature set in the CMOS cameras. The PFRemote SDK can be used in parallel to operate the camera parameters. The software drivers for HALCON 9 and HALCON 10 at the 32 and 64 bit version as well as the LabView driver for the 32 bit and higher versions (e.g. 8.x) can be downloaded for free from the Photonfocus Homepage.
