Vision Components is a leading international manufacturer of embedded vision systems. The freely programmable cameras with powerful onboard CPUs perform image processing tasks on their own without additional computer. Vision Compo-nents offers OEMs versatile Linux-based embedded systems for 2D and 3D image processing, supplied as board cameras or in protective casings. These are complemented by a growing range of ultracompact MIPI camera boards, which connect to a variety of different CPU boards. Software libraries and customized solutions are also part of the program. The team of experts can draw on extensive knowledge and over 20 years of experience with imaging applications. The company based in Ettlingen, Germany, was founded in 1996 by Michael Engel, the inventor of the first industrial-grade intelligent camera. Today, Vision Components works with local partners in over 25 countries to provide consistent customer focus and readily available expertise throughout the world.

More Than 300 Image Processing Functions: Free-of-charge Standard Software Library VCLib

POSTED 11/23/2015

The VCLib software library contains more than 300 functions, including e.g. integrated solutions for pattern matching and 2D code reading. Ettlingen – Powerful software is the perfect companion for intelligent cameras – that's why every Vision Components embedded system is bundled with VCLib free of charge. This software library has been specially tailored to industrial and non-industrial image processing applications and is suitable for all VC Smart Cameras. Comprising software expertise gathered in more than 30 years in the field of image processing, VCLib offers a unique combination of algorithms optimized for VC’s embedded systems that have been tried and tested in more than 120,000 industrial installations. Users can employ more than 300 VCLib functions free of charge – without any additional costs for run-time licenses or other fees. The extensive software library contains all standard image processing routines as well as ready-to-use algorithms for a number of inspection tasks (e.g. color processing, diverse filter routines and pattern matching).

VCLib is designed to facilitate further in-house user programming and development based on the existing code. All standard code types are supported, as is quick and effective FPGA code compilation or translation. The integrated VC Barcode Reader tool reliably recognizes bar codes in any orientation. VCLib enables, for example, correlation with sub-pixel accuracy for the inspection of printed materials and includes filter functions, edge detection functions, geometric transformation functions, a debug function, and more. The user-friendly debug screen displays images from various instances in the development phase. VCLib also enables hardware color conversion from the Bayer pattern, which ensures much faster rendering. A rectangle finder function based on Hough transformation allows users to quickly identify shapes such as vehicle license plates. Functions for contour detection and edge detection with sub-pixel accuracy are also provided.
