POSTED 04/14/2010

In celebration of National Robotics Week, The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), brings Robotics and Unmanned Technologies to Capitol Hill, Thursday, April 15, 2010. The full-day event will take place at the Rayburn House Office Building Foyer in Washington, DC.

National Robotics Week, a product of an effort by leading universities and companies to create a “national roadmap” for robotics technology, was passed by the US Congress on March 9, 2010 and is designated annually as the second full week in April.

Exhibits; a Robotics Caucus Briefing featuring Co-Chairs, Congressman Mike Doyle (D-PA) and Congressman Phil Gingrey (R-GA) and a Keynote Address by Dr. Robin R. Murphy, Raytheon Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Texas A&M University and a lunch reception comprise the event. Congressman Doyle will also receive an Appreciation Award recognizing his efforts to make National Robotics Week a reality.

Scheduled exhibitors include AAI Corporation/Textron, Aeronix, American Dynamics, AnthroTronix, AV, Inc., Applied Research Associates, Carnegie Mellon University, Controp USA partnered with General Dynamics OTS, Elmo Motion Control partnered with RE2, Inc., Geo Systems Inc., Hydronalix, Intelligent Automation, Interbots, iRobot, Lapcad, Liquid Robotics, Lockheed Martin, Sonex Research Inc., Texas A&M University, UAV Pro, University of Pennsylvania GRASP Lab.

About the National Robotics Week Advisory Council
National Robotics Week recognizes robotics technology as a pillar of 21st century American innovation, highlights its growing importance in a wide variety of application areas, and emphasizes its ability to inspire technology education. Robotics is positioned to fuel a broad array of next-generation products and applications in fields as diverse as manufacturing, health-care, national defense and security, agriculture and transportation. At the same time, robotics is proving to be uniquely adept at enabling students of all ages to learn important science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts and at inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. During National Robotics Week, a week-long series of events and activities is aimed at increasing public awareness of the growing importance of “robo-technology” and the tremendous social and cultural impact that it will have on the future of the United States.
