hmond, BC, Canada - Point Grey, a world leader of advanced imaging products, today announced the release to production of its new 2 megapixel Flea3 IEEE 1394b camera models.

The next-generation Flea3 models incorporate an 800 Mbit/s 1394b (FireWire) interface and are based on mono and color versions of the 2.0 MP, 1/1.8-inch Sony® ICX274 CCD. Running at 15 FPS at 1624x1224 resolution, these models complement Point Grey's existing line of Flea3 FireWire cameras introduced last year. All Flea3 cameras measure just 29 x 29 x 30 mm, and offer new features such as opto-isolated GPIO for industrial triggering and strobe output, non-volatile flash memory for user data storage, and on-camera frame buffer.
"With this latest addition we are expanding the range of sensor resolutions available in the Flea3 FireWire line from VGA to 2 megapixel," says Vladimir Tucakov, Director of Sales and Marketing at Point Grey. The ICX274 Super HAD CCD continues to be the industry's favorite 2 megapixel CCD due to its high resolution and sensitivity. Designing it into our ultra-compact Flea3 camera allows us to bring an extremely versatile product to market; one that is perfectly suited for applications in 2D and 3D metrology, electronics, semiconductor, medical, and bioscience. We're also excited to offer improved pricing over the previous generation Flea2 models that use the same sensor."
Every Flea3 camera is equipped with an industry-standard C-mount lens holder, removable optical window for sensor dust protection, and 12-bit analog-to-digital converter. Additional features include automatic control of most camera properties, such as gain, exposure, and white balance; user configuration sets for defining custom power-up settings; gamma and programmable lookup table; customizable region of interest settings; and pixel binning. The Flea3 also complies with the new IIDC v1.32 specification, which allows it to be used with many third-party software packages. Included with every camera is the FlyCapture® SDK, a full software library that provides a common interface to control all Point Grey digital imaging products under both Windows and Linux.
The FL3-FW-20S4 (1/1.8-inch 2.0 MP), list priced at USD $1,345, is available to order now from Point Grey and its network of distributors. The first GigE Vision models are planned to be released to production and available to order by the end of Q2 2011.
