JOB SUMMARY:

This role leads the Design Engineering team which is at the heart of the Adaptec Solutions Engineering team. The group’s purpose is to develop innovative technology that unlocks the full potential of Adaptec Solutions.  This is a team that consists of highly technical and innovative engineers that works collaboratively to solve the most challenging problems. The Manager of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for guiding the development, documentation, and verification of new product designs, as well as coordinating improvements to existing designs to meet the needs of our customers. The Manager of Mechanical Engineering  is also responsible for functional management of a group of Mechanical Engineers and other technical personnel, and selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the group.   

 

JOB DUTIES &  RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical direction and mentoring for a team of engineers
  • Manage the workload of the team
  • Visit’s shop routinely to assess build progress and offers assistance as required to support build and integration
  • Attends internal Design Reviews
  • Promote engineering solutions that meet both the technical and budgetary requirements of the required tasks
  • Help define and determine department standards for Inventor, design practices, and preferred components
  • Knowledge of sound mechanical design principals, shop practices, and automation
  • Participate in system risk assessments
  • Guide professional development for engineers across their career spans
  • Attention to budgets and schedules
  • Participate in RFQ efforts
  • Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers responsible for design of a variety of solutions
  • Advanced analytical, critical thinking, negotiating, managerial, organizational, decision-making, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Bring standardization to commonly used cell completion components
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams and drive product and engineering excellence
  • Build and maintain best practices for 3D & 2D documentation, design reviews, and ideation
  • Provide subject matter expertise in areas including material selection, automation design, manufacturing, robot applications, and tooling design

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, required
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical automation design and engineering
  • Requires at least 5 years related management experience

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Requires knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Experience with Inventor, Solid works, AutoCAD (2D)
  • Understanding of Engineering workflows and process
  • Travel as needed to drive progress
  • Experience with conveyor, sortation systems, and Automated Storage/Retrieval systems
  • Work remotely with engineers across all sites to drive progress and clear roadblocks
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across multi-functional teams and management
