Job Overview:  The Automation Engineer is responsbile for taking the lead in technically building and commissioning Automation Manufacturing training modules/ Systems.  Additionally they will  be in charge of programming (PLC’s and Robotics), assembly, simulating (using software) and troubleshooting automated training equipment. The candidate will also be responsible for upholding a strong relationship with the support of sales management in North America to increase market share of Festo's products by performing the following duties. The successful candidate must be able to present to and work with customers in project discussions as well as commissioning and training events. 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the complete Mechanical/ Electrical assembly
  • Responsible for the complete Installation of system offsite at customers facility
  •  Write and teach Robot programs for new designed robotic cells using Fanuc, Universal Robotics, Kuka, ABB Robots, Using palletizing and Vision software tools.
  •  Debug and test of new programs on shop floor.
  •  Debug and test of new programs at customer facility.
  •  Install/Test proven programs for machines on shop floor.
  •  Assist with developing curriculum for newly designed education modules.
  •  Assist in risk assessment of newly designed machines.
  •  Follow and fill out quality flowcharts and checklists procedures.
  •  Evaluate equipment and define finished production machine.
  • Lead contract personnel through the automation building process when contract support is needed to meet project scope.
  • Make necessary modifications and ensure completeness and accuracy of programs.
  • Create software changes and troubleshoot Rockwell Allen Bradley and Siemens
  • Research new FANUC software such as IR Vision, Keyence Vision etc.….
  • Assist with conceptual design of the operation of new/custom equipment and components.
  • Conduct necessary research and testing.
  • Help refine and develop programming standards.
  • Assist with customer service calls. · Update programs, prints, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Maintain files.
  • Analyzes and researches pertinent information in order to respond to Customer inquiries regarding product features and performance, product application, product substitution and special application requests.
  • Provide technical support to troubleshoot moderately complex problems and system failures.
  • Recommends replacement of components.

Minimum Skills & Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of Electricity, in low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage installations.
  • Good knowledge of local electrical code and standards
  • Good knowledge of Instrumentation and Process Control Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of HMIs, PLCs, (Rockwell/ Siemens)
  • In-depth knowledge of Industrial Robotics (FANUC)
  • Knowledge of food processing operations and technology.
  • Knowledge on MES (Manufacturing Execution System).
  • Knowledge on manufacturing IT, industrial networks and applications
  • Good knowledge of electrical safety
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety, hygienic engineering and Nestlé Quality System.
  • Analytical skills in Problem Solving, specifically, understanding of financial analysis and relevant business drivers:

  • Proactive problem-solving ability. Ability to think objectively through various options and scenarios

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Associate Degree in engineering or equivalent, preferably electrical engineering or Mechatronics Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the field of electricity in a manufacturing facility.
