JOB SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Engineer’s responsibilities will include all aspects of system design, drawing detailing, build, debug and installation support. Day to day duties include mechanical design, drawing package creation, mechanical build support, robot and PLC programmer support, process development/ improvement and startup of industrial automation systems.

 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create mechanical assembly and detail designs for automated systems including, but not limited to, robotics and material handling
  • Research components and work with vendors to obtain quotes and specifications for parts, equipment, and delivery requirements
  • Develop bill of materials from drawing packages
  • Perform engineering analyses and calculations to size system components and equipment in adherence to client specifications, applicable industry standards
  • Assist PLC and Robot Programmers during system build startup/debug
  • Stay current with emerging technologies relating to automated systems and apply where needed
  • Participate in system risk assessments (e.g., safety, process risk assessment)
  • Attends internal and external (customer) Design Reviews and Risk Assessments
  • Promote Engineering Solutions that meet both the Technical and Budgetary requirements of the required tasks
  • Knowledge of sound mechanical design principals, shop practices, and automation
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined teams to develop a complete integrated solution
  • Work closely with project manager and customer from project handoff to project completion
  • Support installation and start up activities
  • Support of overall organizational growth
  • Adhere to company standards and processes
  • Evaluate feasibility of projects including the completion of time studies
  • Assume the duties of a project Technical Lead upon request

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience required
  • 5-10 years in automation design

 

SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE JOB:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with diverse internal and external groups
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Hands on approach to problem solving.
  • Comfortable to work independently and as a team
  • Demonstrates organizational and project management skills including ability to set and manage multiple priorities, and to set and meet deadlines.
  • Fit and assemble components according to assembly blueprints, manuals, and knowledge of machine construction.
  • Must be comfortable with occasional travel.
  • Proficiency with the following design tools/elements:
    • AutoCAD 2D
    • AutoCAD Inventor or SolidWorks
    • HyCAD
  • Software Applications Desired
    • Microsoft Project
    • Encompix
  • Subject expert in the following areas:
    • Conveyors
    • Material Handling
    • Palletizing
    • Bag Palletizing
    • Forging Processes
    • End of line packaging
