Reports To: VP of Operations

Position Purpose
To operate the mission of the automation department profitably, which includes: supervising the automation department managers to facilitate each team's efforts to drive all automation orders to completion, providing top notch service to all customers of automation, guiding the scheduling of automation resources and predicting (and overcoming) resource shortages, representing and negotiating on behalf of APT in day-to-day negotiations (such as feature requests and deadline shifts), and ensuring conformity of automation to APT rules, regulations, and best practices.

Direct reports - automation department managers and all project managers
Indirect reports - all other automation employees

Physical Requirements
Able to stand, bend, climb, and squat, for 10-12 hours per day
Able to stand, squat, bend over, pick up 20lbs occasionally
Able to sit 4-6 hours at a time operating a pc and phone
Able to clearly communicate with customers and travel to customers
Able to accurately see fine details in prints, on computer, or in machines (unaided or with glasses, magnifying tools, etc.)

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Be point of contact for service calls; working with customers on coordinating timely completion
  • Facilitate team efforts (i.e., identify roadblocks for each team and seek ways to remove them)
  • Supervise and direct managers daily
  • Supervise and direct project managers daily
  • Plan and communicate floorspace and labor allocation schedules with consultation of team leads
  • Make cost benefit analysis decisions on areas of prioritizing resources and authorizing overtime and contracted employees
  • Supervise the automation area of APT, set the tone of working in excellence in appearance in the area, and report any maintenance, cleaning, or re-design needs to administrative team
  • Coordinate with other departments in APT that impact Automation--materials handling and machining
  • Maintain strategic level awareness of all active projects in Automation (i.e., milestones, on-time status, vague list of possible future problems)
  • Maintain detail level awareness of any projects "hot" or "red-flagged" (i.e., exact nature of work and details of issues)
  • Lead operational meetings and be able to report with high accuracy all details of operations
  • Communicate resource chokepoints to management
  • Communicate with customer and provide outstanding customer service while protecting the profit margin for APT
  • Drive to training, service calls, installations, etc., as needed.

Minimum Education & Experience

Education and Experience

  • 4-year degree in Business, Organizational Leadership, Industrial Management, or related equivalent experience.  MBA (or related equivalent experience) preferred but not necessary
  • Approximately 5 years' experience in production supervising and/or operations management
  • ERP software proficiency
  • Highly organized and excellent attention to detail
  • Has a mechanical aptitude or industrial background - preferrably controls Engineering or mechanical engineering experience. 
  • Good with Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficient with project management software
  • Able to read blueprints
