Machine Vision's Power for Quality Inspections
Packaging lipstick properly is a mission critical step so a "family" of colors that belong to the same series are produced well and sent successfully along the supply chain. Vision inspection takes place at each step so any defects in the raw material are caught.
Read how a vision system makes detailed color management a reality.
Vision's Impact
Brand loyalty takes a long time to develop while only a few mistakes can ruin a cosmetic manufacturer's reputation with a customer. Vision inspection has to begin as early in the production process as possible to ensure consistent quality across all types of lipstick.
A case study on visiononline.org, Red Lips! Perfection Due to Quality Check with EyeVision Image Processing Software, reveals how an imaging system and software program takes the product from initial steps all the way to the customer. The appearance has to remain in excellent condition throughout.
A challenge that the developer of the system, EVT, had to tackle in its Eye Vision Technology was inspecting the product with a proper viewing angle. The slightest defect had to be detected as well, so color inspection commands were integrated into the software program.
Logos, labels are checked using a pattern matching tool and then barcodes are inspected. The entire package is sent without any defects. Both customers and manufacturers benefit from the end result. Manufacturers save money since an inspection that's more detailed than what's possible with the human eye reduces waste. Customers are happy because they get a product that meets or surpasses expectations.
